Envelope Manager Software Announces New High-Speed Internet Technology

Palo Alto, Calif., May 14, 1999: Envelope Manager Software today announced the release of Turbo Dial-A-ZIP, an enhanced Dial-A-ZIP process which provides address verification over the Internet at speeds comparable to CD-ROM. Using Turbo Dial-A-ZIP to correct and standardize addresses to United States Postal Service (USPS) specifications, PC users can verify up to 3000 addresses per minute. Mailing lists that have been standardized to these specifications (also known as CASS-certified mailing lists) are the first step in discount mail preparation.

Envelope Manager Software patented the first version of Dial-A-ZIP in 1990 to provide real-time address verification and correction in a client-server environment. Prior to Dial-A-ZIP, mailers traditionally relied upon a database on CD-ROM to perform the address verification and correction required by the USPS for all bulk mailing. However, because the database is constantly updated, the CD-ROMs require frequent renewals, making this method both expensive and inconvenient for users.

The Dial-A-ZIP process connects directly to the USPS national address database via the Internet and verifies all addresses in the mailing list, free of charge. This basic process has been used in a host of Envelope Manager products since 1990. Turbo Dial-A-ZIP builds on the original concept by dramatically increasing the speed and power of the process, making it a practical alternative to CD-ROMs - even for professional bulk mailers.

"Dial-A-ZIP's success as an address verification solution is based on the speed and simplicity of the Internet," says Harry Whitehouse, President of Envelope Manager Software. "For the next step, we focused on developing a product that would give professional mailers access to the most current addresses available but would also allow them to take advantage of the Internet's ease of use. Turbo-Dial-A-ZIP provides the fastest, easiest method for address updating."

Envelope Manager Software has been a leader in desktop mailing software for nearly ten years, providing PC users with advanced mailing technology previously available only to professional mailers. Among its more notable achievements, the company was the first to offer address verification via Internet or modem, the first to offer instantaneous change of address information over the Internet, the first to propose a PC-based postage meter to the USPS and the developer of Direct Mail Manager, a wizard-like direct mailing application for Microsoft, available in both Office 97 and the new Office 2000. In addition, Envelope Manager Software is the corporate standard for the USPS and all of their products meet the latest USPS automation standards for mail.

Turbo Dial-A-ZIP will be available first as part of AlphaMailer, Envelope Manager's newest product that supports periodicals mailings and offers an extended, customizable database. Later this summer, Turbo Dial-A-ZIP will be added to several of Envelope Manager's other products, including Envelope Manager PAVE, which was developed to save businesses time and money by presorting mailing lists for discounts of automation letters, flats and postcards, and DAZzle Express, which makes the creation of dynamic, effective direct mailings simple and affordable. The same technology will also be incorporated into Envelope Managers' Internet FASTforwardSM service in order to speed up access to the USPS National Change of Address database.

*FASTforwardSM is a Non-exclusive Licensee of the United States Postal Service. The price at which Licensee is offering FASTforward services is neither established, controlled nor approved by the USPS.
