How do I print a title like "Homeowner" or "Office Manager" instead of a person's name on my envelopes or labels?

Leave the original contact name in the database--you might need it for a later mailing. The following procedure will work ONLY if your database consistently has the contact name in the first line of the address. The key to this procedure is exporting in presort order then printing that file from DAZzle instead of Envelope Manager.

  1. In your DAZzle layout, create a rubber stamp and set the Stamp Message to Homeowner or whatever you want to say. Paste the rubber stamp in your layout right above the address. Set the barcode to go below the address.
  2. Save the layout and exit DAZzle.
  3. In Envelope Manager, presort your mail as usual but don't print the mailpieces. Instead, export to a new database in presort order. The new database will be in an order like tray 1 piece 1, tray 1 piece 2, etc. Remember the new database's location and name.
  4. Exit Envelope Manager.
  5. Run DAZzle.
  6. From the File menu, choose Print List from File. Change the file type to dBase III/IV, and choose the new database you just created.
  7. When you get to the section where you map the fields, map Field 3: Address 2 to Address Line 2, then map Field 4: Address 3 to Address Line 3, and so on for your 4 or 5 line address. Do not map Field 2: Address 1 to anything since you do not want the first line of your address (the person’s name) to print.
  8. Print a small range as a test. If it works, go back to steps 6 and 7 and print the rest of the file (your settings should still be saved from a few minutes ago). Because this database was in presort order, it will print in the order the pieces go in the trays.
Note: If you are doing a carrier route mailing, the first 200 or more of your addresses will have endorsement lines that must be printed above the address. For those first addresses, your layout will need an extra rubber stamp, linked to address field Rubber Stamp 1, above the rubber stamp that says “Homeowner.” In step 7, map Field 2: Address 1 to Rubber Stamp 1, then map Field 4: Address 3 to Address Line 2, and so on. Do not map Field 3: Address 2 to anything since that field contains the person’s name that you do not want to print. When you reach the addresses that don’t have endorsement lines, change to the layout and mappings described as the regular procedure in steps 1-8. The results should look like this:
Most mail:
Homeowner
123 Main St.
Somewhere, VA 24060
Carrier route mail:
********* AUTOCR **C005
Homeowner
404 Murphy St.
Nowhere, VA 24070
Note: This procedure is not feasible for flats mailings. In a flats mailing, the addresses with endorsement lines are scattered throughout the mailing.
