How do I set up Envelope Manager to look up ZIP Codes over the Internet?

If you already have access to the Internet, you no longer have to purchase a USPS AMS CD-ROM or dial a ZIP station. Our Internet Dial-A-ZIP methods are fast, easy, unlimited, and a great bargain. You pay for your own Internet access fees, of course, but the ZIP Codes and other information are free. You can look up as many names as you need--unlike most ZIP stations, there is no 100 name limit.

  1. Inside Envelope Manager, go to the File menu, choose Preferences, then click on the Address Verification tab. Choose the HTTP Dial-A-ZIP option.
  2. If you have a proxy server type it's address in the proxy server box.
  3. Click on OK to exit Preferences. (Your Update Options can stay the same.)

You have completed the setup. Now try looking up ZIP Codes:

  4. If you dial into and/or log into an Internet service, do so now. (You do not need to exit Envelope Manager.)
  5. In Envelope Manager, highlight the first address in your database. From the Options menu, choose Batch ZIP4 Lookup. Set the Number of Records to Process to 1000 higher than the number of entries in your database. Click on OK when prompted.
  6. Click on the Change All button after Envelope Manager finishes checking your ZIP Codes.

If at First It Doesn’t Work, Try Some of These Steps:

  1. Log into your Internet service before doing a ZIP Code lookup.
  2. Make sure you can access a Web page. Your Internet service provider might be down.
  3. Go back to File|Preferences|Address Verification and try one or more of the following IP addresses instead: 65.203.54.10 or www.dial-a-zip.com
  4. Find out if you have a proxy server or firewall. If the answer is yes, you may need to configure them to allow winem32.exe transactions.
  5. Some companies, such as the U.S. Postal Service and the University of Florida, have established additional locations for their users to look up ZIP Codes. If you work for such a company, go back to File|Preferences|Address Verification and click on the IP Addresses button. Then click on the button with the blue plus-sign, type in the address your administrator gave you, and click OK. The IP Address will change but the Port will stay the same.

NOTE: The TCP/IP Dial-A-ZIP option that used port 356 has been discontinued for technical reasons. If your version of Envelope Manager does not have an HTTP option, you need to contact sales@envmgr.com or call 800-576-3279 to discuss which upgrade would be best for you. Be sure to mention what you typically use the program to do.
